Hannity and O'Reilly: Wholesome and kid-friendly?

The Dish Network has unveiled a new programming package designed specifically for families with kids. It's called DishFAMILY and it's touted as "wholesome, worry-free TV."

Among the 40 available channels of "kid-friendly, parent-approved TV" is none other than FOX News Channel, featuring the likes of Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly.

Nice to see that Dish is more than happy to unleash the vile and ignorant drivel of Hannity and O'Reilly, among others, on our nation's youngsters. Like many of those on the right, these hucksters may talk a good game about family and values, but it's nothing more than smoke and mirrors...and lies.

Just ask Andrea Mackris about the loofah sponge.

Allowing kids to watch FOX News isn't far removed from child abuse. No thanks. There's plenty of other garbage on TV without exposing kids to the most biased news coverage this side of Pyongyang.

If you think that's bad, then you should consider this: on the SkyAngel service, which is a DiSH Network Affliliate, FNC is the only news channel available.

I've taken a look at this package, and I'm thinking: why would anybody waste $20 (plus whatever for duplication, installation) for 40 of America's Most Boring (and in the case of FNC, bullshit) channels? I find it funny that "parents" consider that channel "kid-friendly and family safe". You mean, it's actually okay for your kids to sit there and watch grown men lie their asses off every single day? Yeah, I'm just going to assume that "parents" had little to do with the selection of these channels, and replace that with "right-leaning focus group".

And they probably conducted their "right leaning focus groups" in Colorado Springs, not far from their Denver headquarters.

The religious right has managed to turn "family" into a dirty word which means "conform or die off" or "no thinking allowed". Ugh.

Blueberry-

You may recall that the current FCC chairman was quoted as saying a couple of months ago that "people could just change the channel, but why should they have to?" Apparently, he believes in taking the decision-making out of the home and putting it in the hands of the government. Now THAT'S a new twist on conservatism...let the government decide for you. Sounds a tad bit fascist for my taste.
